Cümlede zarf görevinde bulunan bu cümlecikler, cümlenin başında yer alırsa bir virgül ile ayrılır ve aynı zarflar gibi zaman, sebep-sonuç, zıtlık ve şart bildirmede kullanılır.
a) Zaman bildiren zarf yan cümlecikleri
Cümlede olayın ne zaman gerçekleştiğini bildirir. Başlıca zaman zarfları şunlardır:

| when | until | whenever | the last time |
| while | as soon as | as | the first time |
- When we were in Antalya, I went swimming every day.
- Before he leaves home, he always kisses goodbye his children.
- By the time you get this message, I will have left already.
- He has never driven a car since he had an accident.
- Whenever he goes to Ankara, he always stays at the same hotel.
- The last time I watched a film on TV was weeks ago.
b) Sebep-sonuç bildiren zarf yan cümlecikleri
Cümlede eylemin nedenini veya sonucunu bildirir. Bu cümleciklerin başında kullanılan kelimeler ise şunlardır:

- Since she doesn’t like rock music very much, she decided not to go to the concert.
- Now that you have kept your promise, I will keep mine too.

c) Zıtlık bildiren zarf yan cümlecikleri

- Even though / Although / Though + it was raining heavily, they kept playing outside.
- In this economic system the rich get richer whereas / while + the poor get poorer.
d) Şart bildiren zarf yan cümlecikleri
Bu yan cümlelerin başında kullanılan bağlaçlar şunlardır:

- If you put salt on ice, it melts.
- I’d stay longer if I had time.
- Unless you pay the bill soon, they will cut off your telephone.
- I will tell you the truth only if you promise not to tell others.
- I will join the scouts whether or not my parents allow me to do so.
- Even if she apologizes, I will not forgive her.
- Providing (that) / Provided (that) no one has any further questions, we can start immediately. (providing / provided that = if)
