Hi, welcome! Can you introduce yourself?

Hello, thank you. I’m Mihriban and I’m a teacher. I live in Istanbul with my family. I have a son and I like painting and travelling.

OK, Mihriban. Who gave you your name?

My parents gave me my name, my father to be exact. Actually my mother wanted a different name but she was finally convinced because other family members also agreed on Mihriban.

Does your name have any particular (or special) meaning?

Yeah, kind of. It’s a Persian name and it means “friendly, kind and cheerful”. People say that I really represent my name because I always smile 🙂

Do you like your name?

Actually I didn’t like it when I was a child because there was a famous song called Mihriban and every person that I encounter used to sing that song when they learn my name. As you can guess, it’s annoying when you’re a kid. But now I like it, both because of its meaning and because it is a rare name.

IELTS Speaking Sınavı (PART 2)

You will have to talk about the topic for 1 to 2 minutes. We give you one minute to think about what you’re going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Describe the best present / gift you have received:
Who sent it?
What is the gift?
What is it for?
When did you receive it?
Give detailed information about the present.
IELTS Speaking “Gift” konusuna örnek kart

Last year, my husband celebrated my birthday at home. He bought a special book as a birthday gift. It was the Collector’s Edition of the Little Prince. I love that story. And the book is big like an encyclopedia, it has thick hard cover with golden engravings on it. I keep it on the top shelf of our library.

Actually I had read that book for many times and watched its movie but that special edition really made me happy. I also have a pencil case with the little prince on it and even I myself painted the little prince and the fox in the story on a leaf.

IELTS Speaking Sınavı (PART 3)

1) In Turkey, when do people give presents?

Oh, there are several occasions. Of course we give presents on birthdays, Valentine’s days and anniversaries. That’s universal. But we also have some special traditions. For example; when you visit someone in their new home, you bring them a gift for the house not for the people. It can be something useful like cooking utensils or something decorative like a vase.

2) Compare the gift which people have received 20 years ago to the present that people now are receiving, what’s the difference between them?

I think the gifts were monotonic before. For example, I often received a dress as a gift. But now, there are various gifts to choose from. Such as custom made things, special chocolates, and technological stuff etc.

In the near future, I think more and more people will receive digital gifts, such as Netflix subscription, AppStore gift cards and so on.
