İngilizce Kısa Hikayeler ve Türkçeleri

İngilizcenizi geliştirmenin yollarından biri de İngilizce hikaye okumak. İngilizce kısa basit hikayelerle yabancı dilde okuma yapmaya başlayabilirsiniz. Okuma sayesinde halihazırdaki gramer bilginizi güçlendirirsiniz. Ve dil bilgisinde öğrenmiş olduğunuz kuralları bağlam içinde görmüş olursunuz. Böylece teorik olarak öğrendiğiniz kuralların nasıl işlediğini anlarsınız. İngilizce hikayeler sayesinde kelimeleri de bir bağlamda gördüğünüz için kelimeler, hafızanızda daha uzun süre yer tutar. Böylece kalıcı bir öğrenme gerçekleştirmiş olursunuz. Ayrıca İngilizce hikayeler, kültürden izler de taşır. Dolayısıyla İngilizce hikaye okumak, gramer bilginizin ve kelime dağarcığınızın yanı sıra genel kültürünüzü de zenginleştirir.

Bu sebeplerle bu yazımızda sizler için üç hikaye seçtik. Seçtiğimiz İngilizce kısa hikayelerin Türkçelerini de hazırladık. Böylece, karşılaştırma yaparak bilmediğiniz kelimeleri not edebilirsiniz. Bu hikayeler farklı kültürlerden izler taşıyor. İlk hikayemiz İngiltere’den, ikinci hikayemiz ise Hindistan’dan ve sonuncu hikayemiz Mısır’dan.

1. İngilizce Hikaye

The Enormous Turnip

An old man planted a turnip. The turnip grew and grew. It was enormous! The old man started to pull the turnip out of the ground. He pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out. So he called over his wife.

The old woman took hold of the old man, the old man took hold of the turnip. They pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out. So the old woman called over the granddaughter.

The granddaughter took hold of the old woman, the old woman took hold of the old man, and the old man took hold of the turnip. They pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out.
So the granddaughter called over the dog. The dog took hold of the granddaughter, the granddaughter took hold of the old woman, the old woman took hold of the old man, and the old man took hold of the turnip. They pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out. So the dog called over the cat.

The cat took hold of the dog, the dog took hold of the granddaughter, the granddaughter took hold of the old woman, the old woman took hold of the old man, and the old man took hold of the turnip. They pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out. So the cat called over the mouse.

The mouse took hold of the cat, the cat took hold of the dog, the dog took hold of the granddaughter, the granddaughter took hold of the old woman, the old woman took hold of the old man, and the old man took hold of the turnip. They pulled and pulled and finally out came the enormous turnip!

Devasa Şalgam

Yaşlı bir adam bir şalgam dikti. Şalgam büyüdü ve büyüdü. Çok büyüktü! Yaşlı adam şalgamı yerden çıkarmaya başladı. Çekti, çekti ama çıkaramadı. Bu yüzden karısını çağırdı.

Yaşlı kadın yaşlı adamı, yaşlı adam şalgamı kavradı. Çektiler, çektiler ama çıkaramadılar. Böyle olunca, yaşlı kadın torununu çağırdı.

Torun yaşlı kadını, yaşlı kadın yaşlı adamı, yaşlı adam da şalgamı elleriyle tuttu. Çektiler, çektiler ama çıkaramadılar.

Bunun üzerine, torun köpeği çağırdı. Köpek torunu, torun yaşlı kadını, yaşlı kadın yaşlı adamı, yaşlı adam da şalgamı tuttu. Çektiler, çektiler ama çıkaramadılar. Bunun sonucunda köpek, kediyi çağırdı.

Kedi köpeğe, köpek torununa, torun yaşlı kadına, yaşlı kadın yaşlı adama, yaşlı adam da şalgama sarıldı. Çektiler, çektiler ama çıkaramadılar. Bunun üzerine kedi, fareyi çağırdı.

Fare kediyi, kedi köpeği, köpek torunu, torun yaşlı kadını, yaşlı kadın yaşlı adamı, yaşlı adam da şalgam tuttu. Çektiler ve çektiler ve sonunda devasa şalgam çıktı!

2. Hikaye

All for a Paisa

There lived in the valley a very wealthy merchant who was not at all happy with his only son. The boy showed no signs of intelligence or creativity, much less any willingness to work. His mother always thought the best of him, however, and was constantly making excuses for him.

When the lad reached the age to marry, his mother begged the merchant to seek a proper wife for him. The merchant, however, was too much ashamed of his lazy son, and in his own mind had fully decided never to have him married. But the mother had set her heart on this. It was the one thing that she had been looking forward to for years. To have her son remain a bachelor all his life would be unthinkable. She simply would not agree to this for a moment.

And so she urged excuses for her son. She claimed to have now and again noticed extraordinary qualities of wisdom and intelligence in him. Her speaking in this way only annoyed the merchant.
“Look here,” the merchant said to his wife one day, when she had been praising her son, “I have heard this many times before, but you have never once proved it. I do not believe there is a particle of truth in anything that you say. Mothers are blind. However, to satisfy you, I will give the fool another chance. Send for him, and give him this one one small coin, this paisa. Tell him to go to the bazaar, and with this one paisa to buy one item. That one item must be something to eat, something to drink, something to chew on, something to plant in the garden, and some food for the cow.”

The mother told the boy those instructions, gave him the paisa, and the boy left.

When he came to the river, he became alarmed and wondered, “What can be bought for only one paisa — to eat and drink and do all the other things my mother asks for? Surely this is an impossible task!”

At that moment the daughter of an ironsmith came up. Seeing the lad’s unhappy expression, she asked him what was the matter. He told everything his mother had ordered him to do.

“I know what you can do,” she said.

“Go and buy a watermelon with one paisa,” said the girl. “It provides something to eat, something to drink, something to chew upon, something to plant in the garden, and some food for the cow. Give it to your parents, and they will be pleased.”

And so this is exactly what the boy did.

When the merchant’s wife saw the cleverness of her son she was very glad. “Look,” she said to her husband as soon as he came home, “this is our son’s work.”

“Actually, mother,” said the boy, “the daughter of an ironsmith advised me to do this.”

Nevertheless, the father was impressed that the lad had found such a fine solution. And so they invited the family of the ironsmith to their house for dinner. Both parents were pleased to see love bloom between the two young people. And so the daughter of the ironsmith married the merchant’s son, and the lad became a hard-working young husband, and they all lived happily ever after.

Hepsi bir Paisa Karşılığında (en küçük Hint para birimi)

Vadide tek oğlundan hiç memnun olmayan çok zengin bir tüccar yaşardı. Oğlan, çalışma isteği bir yana hiçbir zeka ya da yaratıcılık belirtisi göstermiyordu. Annesi her zaman onun için en iyisini düşünür, her halükarda, ve sürekli onun için bahaneler üretirdi.

Çocuk evlenme yaşına geldiğinde, annesi tüccardan oğluna uygun bir eş bulması için yalvardı. Ancak tüccar tembel oğlundan çok utanıyordu ve kafasında onu asla evlendirmemeye karar vermişti. Ama anne bunu çok istiyordu. Yıllardır dört gözle beklediği tek şey buydu. Oğlunun tüm hayatı boyunca bekar kalması düşünülemezdi. Bunu öylece bir an için kabul etmeyecekti.

Ve bu yüzden oğlu için bahaneler aradı. Onda sık sık olağanüstü bilgelik ve zeka nitelikleri fark ettiğini iddia etti. Bu şekilde konuşması tüccarı sadece kızdırdı. Ve çocuğun da tam olarak yaptığı şey buydu.

Tüccarın karısı, oğlunun zekasını görünce çok sevindi. “Bak,” dedi kocası eve gelir gelmez, “bu oğlumuzun işi.”

“Aslında anne,” dedi çocuk, “bir demircinin kızı bunu yapmamı tavsiye etti.”

Yine de baba, delikanlının böylesine iyi bir çözüm bulması karşısında çok etkilenmişti. Ve bu nedenle, demircinin ailesini akşam yemeği için evlerine davet ettiler. Her iki ebeveyn de iki genç arasındaki aşkın çiçek açtığını görmekten memnun oldu. Böylece demircinin kızı tüccarın oğluyla evlendi ve delikanlı çalışkan bir genç koca oldu ve hepsi sonsuza kadar mutlu yaşadılar.

3. Hikaye

Two Brothers Story

Once there were two brothers who inherited their father’s land. The two brothers divided the land in half and each one farmed his own section.

Over time, the older brother married and had six children, while the younger brother never married.

One night, the younger brother lay awake. “It’s not fair that each of us has half the land to farm,” he thought. “My brother has six children to feed and I have none. He should have more grain than I do.”

That night the younger brother went to his barn and gathered a large bundle of wheat.  He climbed the hill that separated the two farms and over to his brother’s farm. Leaving the wheat in his brother’s barn, the younger brother returned home, feeling pleased with himself.

Earlier that very same night, the older brother was also lying awake. “It’s not fair that each of us has half the land to farm,” he thought. “In my old age my wife and I will have our grown children to take care of us, not to mention grandchildren, while my brother will probably have none. He should at least sell more grain from the fields now so he can provide for himself with dignity in his old age.”

So that night, too, he secretly gathered a large bundle of wheat and climbed the hill.  He left the grain in his brother’s barn and returned home, feeling pleased with himself.

The next morning, when the younger brother went into his barn he was surprised to see the amount of grain was unchanged. “I must not have taken as much wheat as I thought,” he said, bemused. “Tonight I’ll be sure to take more.”

That very same moment, his older brother was also standing in his barn, musing much the same thoughts.

After night fell, each brother gathered a greater amount of wheat from his barn and in the dark, secretly delivered it to his brother’s barn. The next morning, the brothers were again puzzled and perplexed. “How can I be mistaken?” each one scratched his head.

“There’s the same amount of grain here as there was before I cleared the pile for my brother. This is impossible! Tonight I’ll make no mistake – I’ll take the pile down to the very floor. That way I’ll be sure the grain gets delivered to my brother.”

The third night, more determined than ever, each brother gathered a large pile of wheat from his barn, loaded it onto a cart, and slowly pulled his haul through the fields and up the hill to his brother’s barn. At the top of the hill, under the shadow of a moon, each brother noticed a figure in the distance.  Who could it be?

When the two brothers recognized the form of the other brother and the load he was pulling behind, they realized what had happened.

Without a word, they dropped the ropes to their carts, and embraced.

İki Kardeş Hikayesi

Bir zamanlar babalarının topraklarını miras alan iki erkek kardeş vardı. İki kardeş araziyi ikiye böldü ve her biri kendi bölümünü ekti.
Zamanla, ağabeyi evlendi ve altı çocuğu oldu, küçük erkek kardeş ise hiç evlenmedi.

Bir gece, küçük erkek kardeşin gözüne uyku girmedi. “Her birimizin ekecek toprağın yarısına sahip olmamız adil değil,” diye düşündü. “Kardeşimin beslemesi gereken altı çocuğu var ve benim çocuğum yok. Onun benden daha fazla tahılı olmalı.”

O gece küçük kardeş ahırına gitti ve büyük bir buğday demeti topladı. İki çiftliği ayıran tepeye tırmandı ve kardeşinin çiftliğine gitti. Buğdayı kardeşinin ahırına bırakan küçük kardeş, halinden memnun bir şekilde eve döndü.
Aynı gecenin erken saatlerinde, ağabeyinin de gözüne uyku girmedi. “Her birimizin ekecek toprağın yarısına sahip olmamız adil değil,” diye düşündü. “Yaşlılığımda karım ve ben, bize bakacak yetişkin çocuklarımız olacak, torunlarımız bir yana, kardeşimin ise muhtemelen hiç olmayacak. En azından şimdi tarlalardan daha fazla tahıl satmalı ki yaşlılığında onurlu bir şekilde kendi geçimini sağlayabilsin.”

Bu yüzden o gece o da gizlice büyük bir buğday demeti topladı ve tepeye tırmandı. Tahılı kardeşinin ahırına bıraktı ve kendinden memnun hissederek eve döndü.

Ertesi sabah, küçük kardeş ahırına girdiğinde tahıl miktarının değişmediğini görünce şaşırdı. “Düşündüğüm kadar buğday almamış olmalıyım,” dedi şaşkınlıkla. “Bu gece daha fazlasını aldığımdan emin olacağım”
Aynı anda, ağabeyi de ahırında dikilmiş, hemen hemen aynı düşüncelere dalmıştı.

Gece olunca her kardeş ahırından daha çok buğday getirdi ve karanlıkta gizlice kardeşinin ahırına teslim etti. Ertesi sabah, kardeşler yine şaşırdı ve kardeşlerin kafaları karıştı. “Nasıl yanılabilirim?” diye her biri başını kaşıdı.
“Kardeşim için yığını temizlemeden öncekiyle aynı miktarda tahıl var burada. Bu imkansız! Bu gece hata yapmayacağım – yığını en alt kata kadar indireceğim. Bu şekilde tahılın kardeşime ulaştığından emin olacağım.”

Üçüncü gece, her zamankinden daha kararlı, kardeşlerden her biri ahırından büyük bir buğday yığını topladı, bir arabaya yükledi ve yavaş yavaş tarlalardan geçerek tepeye, kardeşinin ahırına doğru çekti. Bayırın tepesinde, ayın gölgesi altında, her bir kardeş uzakta bir figür fark etti. Bu kim olabilirdi ki?

İki kardeş, diğer kardeşin suretini ve arkasından çektiği yükü fark edince ne olduğunu anladılar.
Tek kelime etmeden halatları arabalarına bırakıp kucaklaştılar.
